| Privately Funded International Student Enrollment Selection Method and Other Information (2009) |
(1) Applicant Eligibility
Applicants must meet the conditions of 1. below, and must have taken the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students in the subjects listed in 2., in either June or November 2008.
- Applicants must not possess Japanese citizenship, and must possess either a visa status of "college student", or a visa status that can be changed to "college student" as stipulated by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act. Applicants must also meet one of the following conditions:
a) Those who have completed a 12-year course of education in foreign schools, or who are expected to complete same by March 31, 2009, or those with an equivalent condition as specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology;
b) Those specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (those with either the international baccalaureate degree, Abitur degree [German], or baccalaureate degree [ France ], and who are 18 years old as of March 31, 2009 ).

Even if an applicant does not have Japanese citizenship, if they graduated from a Japanese high school or middle school, or if they graduated from (completed) another educational facility within Japan , or if they are expected to graduate (complete) the same by March 31, 2009 , then they will be treated as an ordinary applicant. Please note that this section does not apply to ordinary applicants.
Note, however, that those who meet both conditions 1. b) and 2. may apply. |
(2) Selection Method
The selection of enrollees depends on an individual academic examination and other factors (individual academic examination, interview, and a short essay), the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, and an academic transcript. The selection methods used by each faculty are shown below: |

Note 1.
|
The first level of selection for the Faculty of Economics is based on scores for the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students and the TOEFL or TOEIC. Those who pass the first selection are interviewed. |
| Note 2. |
The Day Course of the Faculty of Business Administration emphasize TOEFL or TOEIC scores.
The Night Course of the Faculty of Business Administration are not accepting applications. |
| Note 3. |
The Division of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and the Division of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the School of Engineering emphasize TOEFL scores. |
| Note 4. |
The Division of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, the Division of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Marine Technology and the Division of Physics of the School of Engineering emphasize TOEFL or TOEIC scores. |

Note 1.
|
The requirements for applying privately-funded international students are distributed in booklet form starting at the end of November, separately for each faculty/school. Ask the responsible coordinator (See (4)"other information" below) for the requirements of the faculty/school in question. |

Applications are not accepted at information desks on Saturdays, Sundays, and during the break time of 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. |
| Note 3. |
Make sure to submit documents for application during the application period. The Faculty of Economics accepts applications by mail that arrive no later than January 28 (Wednesday). |
| Note 4. |
The TOEFL or TOEIC transcript must be submitted together with the application documents, at the same time (or enclosed with the mailed application). Also, since it takes some time for the TOEFL or TOEIC transcript to arrive at the test-taker's address, be sure to begin preparations early in order to be ready by the time of the application period. |
| Note 5. |
Submit one score notification form for the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, either from the one held in June 2008, or from the one held in November 2008. |

1. In order to obtain visa status of "college student",
it is necessary to demonstrate sufficient financial resources required
to maintain school life in Japan .
2. Ask the responsible section for details regarding the faculty in question.
