YNU Laos Alumni Reunion was held in Vientiane
On Tuesday, October 27th, YNU Laos Alumni Reunion was held in Vientiane. 7 Laotian alumni and their 3 wives, Dean and Professor of College of Business Administration Hiroshi Morita, Professor of College of Education and Human Sciences Masafumi Ogawa, and Associate Professor of Faculty of International Social Sciences Yasushi Narushima attended this event.
YNU Laos Alumni are mainly consisted of graduate students who completed ‘Transition Economy Program/Japan IMF Scholarship Program’ which was established at YNU Graduate School of International Social Sciences. This program was implemented with the cooperation of International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2001 when ‘Law and Public Policy Course’ was established at the graduate school under the cooperation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
For international students, these programs were expected to contribute to economy, finance, development of law, and political practices in their home countries, and today many of whom are playing active roles in their governments, and financial institutions after completing the programs.
Laotian Alumni, had a lively conversation about their studying at YNU, memories of Japan and the current jobs. They mentioned that the study at YNU was useful to their current job, the person who are working at Bank of Laos expressed his gratitude that what he had learned at YNU has become the foundation for his life as well as being useful to his current job.
As some of the alumni met each other for the first time, the reunion seemed to have helped them build the network in Laos.
The reunion was proceeded with a cheerful atmosphere on the terrace of the restaurant overlooking the Mekong. The date of the party fell on a Laotian holiday, which was the 1st day of the new season in the Buddhist Calendar. Fireworks to celebrate the holiday were visible from the restaurant, adding more enjoyment to the party.
Before ending the reunion, all the participants wore YNU stoles, and took a commemorative picture.
The network of the Laos alumni is expected to more grow in the near future.
