The YNU Summer Program 2016, hosted by YNU’s International Strategy Organization, which is YNU’s first short-term Japanese language program was held at YNU campus from July 4 to July 15, 2016. A total of 8 students participated in this 12-day program. Divided into 2 classes according to their level, the students attended intensive Japanese language classes in the morning, and received lectures in English on topics related to Japanese culture and society in the afternoon sessions.

The students also went to an excursion to the Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum in Kawasaki, the Cup Noodle Museum in Yokohama, and Kamakura. On the weekend the students experienced a short homestay with a Japanese family and had an opportunity to experience daily life at a Japanese household. Additionally, YNU student volunteer staff assisted the students in their Japanese classes and also gave support to adjusting in their life at YNU.

On the final day of the program, the students held a poster presentation on the themes “A Japanese’s daily schedule and what Japanese people like” and “Comparison of Japan and my home country”. After the presentation, a farewell ceremony was conducted, and Executive Director Fumihiko Nakamura awarded a Certificate of Completion to the students.

Students who participated in this program commented that they were able to enhance their Japanese skills, and also establish a good relationship with the YNU students during the program. The YNU International Strategy Organization will seek to hold similar summer courses in the near future, and also continuously increase the opportunities for foreign students to study at YNU.
