Freshman Orientation Introduces Government-Sponsored Grad Students from China to YNU

Freshman Orientation was held for students who were admitted on the "Chinese Government Graduate Student Overseas Study Program" at the International Student Center on October 7, 2010.

In October, this program accepted 8 new students from four universities with whom YNU has an academic exchange agreement: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dalian University of Technology, Beijing Normal University and East China Normal University.

The Orientation started with a welcome speech by Yuichi Hasebe, chair of the Practical International Exchange Steering Committee, followed by self-introduction of each new student, either in Japanese (which they're learning) or in English, and self-introduction by faculty and staff that were present. When Professor Masami Kadokura of ISC explained about the Japanese courses at YNU, freshmen seemed to sit up straight to listen.

Under the present program, students are accepted into Master's and Doctoral programs, and visiting students in Joint-Development Doctoral Courses, sponsored by China and Japan, are also accepted. Students pursue their study in doctoral courses in the International Graduate School of Social Sciences, the Graduate School of Engineering, or the Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences. Each of the 8 students expressed their enthusiastic commitment to study before catapulting themselves into graduate work in earnest.
