Kamakura Study Trip for International Students

On Tuesday November 5th, 2013, Yokohama National University International Office conducted Kamakura Study Trip for International Students, in which 34 international students participated.

In the morning, after visiting Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu Shinto Shrine, the group tried hand copying sutra (called "shakyo" in Japanese) at Hasedera Buddhist Temple and visited to see the very famous Great Buddha at Kotokuin Buddhist Temple.

They had Buddhist vegetarian dish (called "shojin-ryori") for lunch, and went to Enoshima Island in the afternoon. In Enoshima, the participants walked around the Samuel Cocking Garden and enjoyed the beautiful sunset from the Sea Candle Observation Decks.

It was the first time for many of the participants to visit Kamakura as most of them had just entered the university this October. We hope that the trip was a good opportunity for them to feel the historical atmosphere of Kamakura.

YNU will keep organizing such study trips for international students that they can learn the history and culture of Kanagawa Prefecture and Japan. The next and the last trip for this academic year will be watching "Kabuki" performance in Shimbashi, Tokyo. We will upload the information on this website very soon. We look forward to your participation!
