On September 26th and 27th, 38 international students took a study trip to Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture.

On the first day, participants visited Edo Wonderland, a unique theme park for experiencing the life during the Edo period. They were fascinated by the culture and life style of the Edo era.
On the second day, the students first visited the 97m high Kegon Falls. They were excited by the picturesque and powerful waterfall. Next, they took a guided tour of Nikko Toshogu Shrine. They took a lot of pictures of shrine pavilion and listened earnestly to the stories of wonderful carvings such as San-zaru (three monkeys) and Nemuri-neko (sleeping cat). Lastly, they experienced a traditional art work Nikko-Bori. Using a special carving knife called Nikko-Sankakutou, they carved San-zaru on a wooden board. Receiving praise from the instructor, they happily took their works home with a lot of good memories.

We hope that this study trip became a great opportunity for international students to learn Japanese cultures, its tradition and history.
