As artificial intelligence (AI) technology advances rapidly, generative AIs, which generate logical texts and high-quality images and illustrations based on various data, are well on their way to becoming a reality. Particularly, some natural language-processing AI applications like ChatGPT, made publicly available for free use, have the potential to drastically change intellectual work in our future life and society. Appropriate utilization of these technologies as tools is expected to help deepen and widen your learning and further enhance your growth.

But, at the same time, it must be noted that there is always a negative side to new technologies if used in an unchecked manner. The use of generative AIs might impede your learning and growth, ruining the ability to think on your own. It could even unintentionally cause legal or ethical problems.

To make good use of generative AIs, please take careful note of the following precautions. In preparing assignments, reports, and research papers, you are asked to strictly adhere to the scope of use specified by your teacher or advisor.

General precautions

1. Do not enter any private or confidential information into generative AIs.
Data entered into generative AIs could be used for AI learning or leaked unintentionally.
2. Do not use raw data from generative AIs as your own accomplishment, production, or creation.
The ability to gather information and express thoughts logically in writing is the most important skill in intellectual
work. You must not let the use of generative AIs impede your growth. The information produced by generative AIs
could be part of someone’s production or creation. If outputs from generative AIs are used as they are, it could
cause extremely serious problems, such as copyright violation and plagiarism, irrespective of whether it is
  intentional or not.
3. Do not blindly believe outputs from generative AIs.
The source of information generated by generative AIs is not clear and may contain entirely fabricated
information, biased views, or ethically problematic expressions.

These precautions may be subject to change if relevant guidelines are issued by a ministry or agency involved. For updates, please visit our university’s official website.
