A Japan Foundation Award goes to Cairo University’s Japanese Department

The 2011 Japan Foundation Award for Japanese Language has been given in recognition of the department’s role in diffusing and promoting Japanese culture in Arabic-speaking countries. The department has also pioneered Japan Studies in the Arab world and held several symposium on the discipline, including one it co-hosted with YNU in November 2010.

The presentation ceremony was held at Roppongi Academyhills on October 11, and the Award recipient, Professor Karam Khalil of the department gave a speech of acceptance. The ceremony was also attended by Professor S Yoshida of YNU who is a former visiting professor of the department.
