Yokohama National University
Invitation of applications for tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level

Yokohama National University (YNU) invites applications for 11 tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level in the areas listed below. These positions are funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) under “Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology”.

The positions start from October 1, 2007 and last until March 31, 2012. The contract will be renewed each year. The successful candidates will conduct world class research independently, although it is needless to say that they can collaborate with tenured faculty members in the related field. The appointees are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in their areas of expertise. The appointees will be provided with startup budgets and will receive preferential treatment in research funds. They will receive reviews at the end of the third year and a final review in March, 2012. Based on these reviews, those who show excellence in research and teaching, and proficiency in Japanese will be promoted to the rank of tenured associate professor. If the evaluation at the end of the third year is extraordinary, it is possible that they are promoted to tenured associate professor. Annual salary is between JPY6,000,000 to 8,000,000 depending on research and teaching  experiences etc. The salary is based upon YNU pay scale, and it is almost the same level as that of the junior tenured faculty member.

All candidates must have a doctoral degree. The selection process is irrespective of nationality, gender and age.
