From Dec. 21st to 27th, 18 of YNU university staffs and students (8 staffs and 10 students, lead by Vice-President Kunio Suzuki) paid a visit to East China Normal University (Shanghai) and Beijing Normal University (Beijing), both of them as YNU’s exchange partner universities, and enjoyed several inter-university events.

On 22nd, at East China Normal University, the delegation member had a conversation with the ECNU representative Ren Yougun, where they had a concrete discussion about the principle for future relationships between the two universities. Following the meeting, the group toured the campus and had a lunch with ECNU Vice-President Luo Guozheng. Following, series of lectures were held by YNU professors such as “Innovation and Environment Management” by Vice-President Suzuki, “Present condition and future task on training teaching staff in Japan” by Dean of Faculty of Education and Human Sciences Sachio Fukuda, “YNU ‘Course of exchange activities with local community’ and Yokohama town development” by Associate Prof. Minoru Takamizawa, “Urban environmental issues in Japan” by Associate Prof. Keiji Ujikawa and “YBG Business simulation” using e-learning by Associate Prof. Motonari Tanabu.

At this lecture, four Chinese students and one Japanese student played the role as translators and presenters. There were many ECNU professors and students participating at this lively lecture and including the Q&A session, the lecture lasted longer than the scheduled time. Also, there was an introduction about the “University International Exchange Seminar”, a seminar to be held by representatives from both universities in February, by Prof. Tadayoshi Murata and Prof. Masami Kadokura with five other students, and as a pre-seminar, a presentation and a debate was held by students from both sides.

On 23rd, the delegation visited Qi Baozhen, the ancient part of the Shanghai City, and Pu Dong, the modern part of the City where the member was astonished with the history and the overwhelming power of the development of the city.

On 25th, the delegation moved to Beijing Normal University, where they were given a campus tour and a guide to the Culture Museum with many precious collections. At the meeting with BNU Vice-President Han Zhen and Dean Liu Song Bai, both sides agreed to further deepen the relationship mutually in the future. Following, there were lectures and students debating held just as same as the one held at ECNU.

On 26th, the delegation toured the developing City of Beijing, a city different from Shanghai with tall modern buildings, where they felt the boundless scale and the eternal history of China. At the alumni party held in the evening, more than twenty YNU graduates residing in Beijing gathered, enjoying the exchange opportunity with delegation members.

On 27th, the last day of the stay, Vice-President Suzuki, Prof. Murata and Chief Coordinator Yoko Ito visited the Beijing branch office of Hitotsubashi University and Hiroshima University, and had an exchange talks concerning the educational and research cooperation in China involving both universities.

This visit was subsided as part of the “Cooperative initiative for the establishment of a practical education program” and gave the first step for launching the joint practical education program held by Japan and China as well as the University International Exchange Seminar which is to be held in coming February.
