An International University Exchange Seminar held at YNU

The aim of the seminar was to provide a constructive and positive points of view towards the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 Shanghai World Expo as well as promoting mutual understanding between Japan and China through research and education in the university by holding many events, and the participants were able to think about the concept of the cities open to the world by visiting the actual fields of Yokohama, Kawasaki and Tokyo using public transportations. Another aspect of this event was that this has been a continuous and developing one, including some pre-activities such as the YNU studentsEtwo-week travel to China held last September and the visit by YNU students and staffs to both universities last December. Following are the activities held during the 10-day seminar; [Feb. 14th] ARRIVAL -Arriving at Central Japan International Airport. -Pick-up by Prof. Tadayoshi Murata (Faculty of Education and Human Sciences), and move to the Kawasaki City Youth hostel by highway-bus on Tomei Expressway. [Feb.15th] VISITING KAWASAKI CITY -Visiting Kawasaki City Waste Treatment Center and the Recycling Community Center [Feb. 16th] OPENING OF THE SEMINAR -Opening Ceremony -A keynote lecture: City Development and Transportation MaintenanceEby Associate Prof. Toshiyuki Okamura of the Faculty of Engineering -Plenary session and Section meeting -Cultural exchange assembly [Feb. 17th] LECTURE, MOVING TO YOKOHAMA CITY -Lecture: Urban Modernization and the OlympicsE(Beijing Normal University Prof. Zheng Feihu) -Lecture: Modernization in Shanghai from the past, present and futureE(East China Normal University Prof. Wu Zunmin) -Lecture: Waste treatment conditions in Kawasaki CityE(Kawasaki City Environmental Protection Bureau) - Moving to the hotel in Yokohama by taking public transportation. [Feb. 18th] A WHOLE FREE DAY [Feb. 19th] VISITING YOKOHAMA CITY -Lecture: The Minato Mirai 21Urban PlanningE(City of Yokohama Urban Development Bureau) -Riding the surveying ship TakashimaEowned by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation -Visiting the Kanagawa Prefectural Police [Feb. 20th] VISITING TOKYO -Move to Shibuya by Toyoko Line -Visiting NHK, Meiji Jingu shrine, National Institution for Youth Education -Visiting the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Shinjuku station during the commuting hour [Feb. 21st] VISITING YNU -Campus tour to International Student Center, Career Support Room, Information Processing Center, etc. -Meeting with President Iida and the YNU administrative members (Professors only) -Splitting to the following three groups in the afternoon; 1. Lecture by Prof. Murata 2. Visiting Kamakura Elementary School 3. Visiting Kawasaki City -Attending the joint seminar and the reception hosted by the International Graduate School of Social Sciences [Feb. 22nd] REPORT SESSION -Plenary Session (introducing experiences and impressions on the seminar) -Report Session (at the Education and Culture Hall) -Closing ceremony, reception [Feb. 23rd] RETURN TO CHINA -Move to Central Japan International Airport by ShinkansenEbr> Listing each activities like above, it can be founded how the seminar was a fulfilling one. While the 10-day seminar may have been very busy for the participants, it has been a wonderful opportunity for them to learn more about Japan, make friendship and for the mutual understanding with each other. |
