On May 23rd, YNU held a report session for “Foreign Officer’s Training Program” which was presented by Ms. Ni Yingjun from the Personnel Division of Sichuan International Studies University (SISU), China.
Ms. Ni is the first ever foreign officer trainee coming to YNU under “The Higher Education Project in China” sponsored by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. She stayed for approximately six months from Dec. 4th 2006 to May 28th 2007 and while working at Science and International Affairs Division with other YNU staffs, she studied the system of personnel management operated in Japanese universities and also took courses for Japanese language and international exchange subjects held at the International Student Center. Especially, a lecture for the system of personnel management was held by Head of Personnel and Labor Affairs Division Mr. Ohori, which was a very meaningful one for Ms. Ni for managing personnel issues after retuning to China.

At the session, Ms. Ni presented the experiences she had during her stay at YNU, and also introduced the system of higher education in China, and the outline of Sichuan International Studies University. Also, she made some points on the differences between SISU and YNU which was a very interesting presentation for the audience. After the presentation, there were many questions given regarding higher education in China and Ms. Ni’s experiences in Japan, etc.
At the end, Ms. Ni was given the certificate of completion from Secretary-General Saito before closing the session. Also, Mr. Sen Kei, a senior international student from China at the Faculty of Business Administration, contributed as the translator.

Supported by The Japanese Yen Credit Program on Chongqing’s Personnel Training, I have been given this opportunity to receive training courses on college affairs in Yokohama National University from December 2006 to May 2007.
During the six months, while working for International Affairs Division subordinate to General Affairs Department, I have taken training courses on Personnel Management operated by Japanese universities, on Japanese Language, Culture of Japan as well as Psychology of Developed Language. Active participation in international intercollege exchanges helped me a lot, and the Trade material center of economics department helped me collect some useful materials in Labour Economics. I have toured many wonderful places in Japan like Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Nara, Okinawa whose landscapes are amazingly beautiful. All of such experiences are treasure for me, fresh but unforgettable.

What signified me most is the study on College Personnel Management. The system of college personnel management in Japan differs in some aspects from that in China. For instance, the income of professors in Japan has little relationship with the teaching periods and the number of students. However, to my surprise, they still work very hard. Moreover, the system of faculty rating and employment system seems very distinctive, since professor committee and school departments enjoy more decision-making rights. The above knowledge has inspired me on the orientation of future college reforms in China. So I have enhanced myself by drawing on the strong points on the basis of learning and comparison.
Japanese college affairs faculty’s way of working and their scrupulous working attitude impressed me a lot. They offer considerate services for teachers and students, and highlight self-reflectivity in their work. They are good examples for us Chinese peers.
Harmonious relationships between people, easy transportation, and fresh air offer me a pleasant stay in Japan. With numerous happy memories, I am going to say goodbye to Japan and go back to China. Japan, a country to leave, but never forget!
