Director of Redlands Institute, University of Redlands (USA) visits YNU

On October 19th, Director Jordan Henk of Redlands Institute, University of Redlands and Director Monty Hempel of Center for Environmental Studies, University of Redlands visited Yokohama National University.
University of Redlands locates its campus in the suburb of Los Angeles, California and since the Redlands Institute and the YNU Center for Risk Management and Safety Sciences concluded the academic exchange agreement in 2006, mainly exchange of information among researchers has been active and currently 2 YNU students are doing their research work at the Redlands Institute. This time, Director Henk and Director Hempel visited YNU to give a lecture at an international symposium hosted by YNU.
At the meeting, Executive Director Nagashima and Prof. Satoru Sadohara of the Faculty of Environment and Information Sciences attended and much information such as the current situation of exchange activities between both universities and the condition of environment education in USA and Japan were exchanged. Among them were very interesting talks given such as; environmental education in USA was not popular in the past but since 90‘s has been given attention, and today number of students who has interest in environmental studies such as environmental management and environmental engineering has become the top exceeding the field of engineering; The Redlands Institute has been emphasizing environmental studies on Salton Sea which is located close to the campus, etc.
It is expected to have more active exchange held between both universities in the future.
