16 YNU students were selected for Short-term Study Abroad Program in the Philippines after the selection of the other YNU International Special Program 2014 held at Portland State University in Oregon, the U.S.
The program at the University of Santo Tomas gave the YNU students opportunities for enhancing their English abilities to be energetically involved in the international society. The students took English classes with their tutors who were students of the University of Santo Tomas studying the teaching of English. As the English class activities, the YNU students expressed their own views and interviewed students on campus in English. Through such activities, they were gradually getting used to communicating with others in English and positively tried to talk with each other in English.

The YNU students also got many opportunities to deeply understand one of developing countries, the Philippines from the social and cultural points of view. For example, they took part in a weekend field trip and visited NPO HALOHALO supporting local people who lived in tough lives. The participants interviewed those people and knew their actuality as one side of Philippine society. The students also attended a YNU Philippine Alumni in Manila. They were inspired by YNU alumni and alumnae, who were doing remarkable work in the country.
Short-term Study Abroad Program in the Philippines ran for just about 2 weeks. However, YNU expects the students foster their interests in foreign countries more through this short program.

YNU also expects this valuable experience provides the students with a motivation to participate in YNU Exchange Program that is carried out on a larger scale.
