The delegation of Executive Director Nakamura visited the partner universities and institutions in Beijing

Executive Director and Vice President Fumihiko Nakamura, and Professor Hitoshi Yamada of Faculty of Urban Innovation visited the local partner universities and institutions in Beijing on January 16th and 17th, 2017.

On January 16th, the delegation visited Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) and signed the Academic Partnership Agreement between YNU and BJTU. BJTU Vice President LIU Jun represented BJTU to sign this agreement including cooperation of joint research between the universities.

BJTU is a four-year university and has more than a hundred years of history. The university originally founded as Beijing Railway Management Institute in 1909, and became Jiaotong University, then Northern Jiaotong University prior to becoming BJTU in 2003. The university is located where China’s modern railway technology originated. Some renowned people such as Ying Shang Cai, the first China’s inventor of high-horsepower steam engines, and Xu Jing, a pioneer of railway transport economics in China, are the graduates of BJTU.

This agreement was facilitated by the effort of the professors of Faculty of Urban Innovation especially Professor Yamada. Executive Director Nakamura first expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the people of BJTU in his speech at the pre-meeting. He then explained YNU’s globalization and its student exchange programs as well as the development of joint research between the two universities. On the other side, Vice President LIU Jun stated, “I look forward to the implementation of the student and faculty exchange between the both universities, Summer School and an increase in the options for the exchange from the both of the universities.”

This agreement between the universities is expected to lead to more professors, staff and student exchanges and strengthening cooperation between YNU and BJTU.

On the same day, the delegation visited one of YNU’s partner universities, University of Science and Technology Beijing and had a meeting with Director of International Office Guo Kanjun to discuss the agreement related matter.

On January 17th, the YNU delegation visited the High School Affiliated to Minzu University of China and had a meeting with the Secretary Tong Lijuan. Executive Director Nakamura showed his gratitude for the fact the students applied for YNU College of Urban Innovation through YGEP admission and encouraged the active future applications. He also introduced YNU for prospective students planning to apply to YNU for the next year. It is expected that the number of students of the High School Affiliated to Minzu University of China to apply for YNU will increase the next year and later.
