Procedures for Leave of Absence, Return to School, and Leaving School

Leave of Absence

  1. If you wish to take a leave of absence due to illness or other reasons, you must apply for leave of absence (to be jointly signed by parents, etc.) in accordance with the "Standards for Permission for Leave of Absence from Yokohama National University" and obtain permission from the President of Yokohama National University.
  2. The period of leave of absence is limited to be within one year until the end of the relevant school year. If a student on an approved leave of absence still needs a leave of absence after the stipulated period, the student may request an extension of that period.
    ※If you wish to extend the period of leave, please contact the office of your faculty, etc.to follow the procedures before the expiration of the period of leave.
  3. The period of leave of absence does not count toward the period of enrollment.
  4. The total period of leave of absence may not exceed four years for undergraduate students and two years for a master’s program and Division of Advanced Professional Practice in Education and three years for a doctoral program, unless otherwise specified.
  5. International students are subject to revocation of status of residence in accordance with the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
    Please return to your home country or change your status of residence to another one as soon as possible, unless you have a justifiable reason.
    Please note that "economic reasons" do not fall under the category of legitimate reasons.
  6. If you intend to take a leave of absence, please department of your collegeas soon as possible, including consultation on procedures related to tuition fees.

Criteria for Permission for Leave of Absence at Yokohama National University


Return to School

  1. If the reason for the leave of absence ceases to exist during the period of absence, you may return to the university by applying for reinstatement to the office of the faculty with which you are affiliated and obtaining permission from the president of the university.
  2. If you wish to return to school after your leave of absence has expired, please contact department of your college in advance (even if you do not contact the office, you will be reinstated upon expiration of your leave of absence).
  3. Upon reinstatement, you must pay tuition for the current term (spring and fall semesters) based on the monthly calculation.

Leaving School

If you wish to leaving school, please contact department of your college and receive instructions.
