International Graduate School of Social Sciences

YNU integrated four social science schools, i.e., the Graduate School of Economics, the Graduate School of Business Administration, the Graduate School of International and Business Law, and the Graduate School of International Development Studies, into a new independent graduate school.

As a result of this consolidation, on April 1, 1999 the International Graduate School of Social Sciences was established. It aims to train competent experts to play an active role in various fields of international society.

The Graduate School has a five-year doctoral course. Students can obtain a master's degree after completing the first two-years of study.

The first two-year course of the doctoral program is provided by the following five departments:

The subsequent three-year course is provided by the following four departments:

In April 2004, YNU established a new School of Law within the International Graduate School of Social Sciences, corresponding to Japan's new law school system, which is the first professional school system in Japan. Law schools are under the exclusive mandate to produce lawyers. YNU's experience and achievement in graduate-level legal education in the past will help us work toward this goal.

The program at the School of Law is a sui generis one, in the sense that it is a three-year professional program. The graducates are conferred the degree of juris doctor.
