University Policy for Partnership with Industry

April 1, 2004

Universities are expected to produce the human resources who will serve our society, conduct research to support our world today and tomorrow, and contribute to society through educational and research results. In keeping with its principles, Yokohama National University (YNU) values the practical application of educational and research results to contribute extensively to society.

YNU seeks to contribute to society through the knowledge it produces; namely, through lifelong learning and other educational programs, as well as research conducted mainly in partnership with industry.

YNU commits to the following to ensure coordinated partnerships with industry toward the further advancement of our local communities, national and local governments, industry, and international society.

  1. YNU will actively partner with industry to enhance welfare and develop our human society.
  2. YNU will make sure that knowledge gained from research is shared in an easy-to-understand way outside of the university.
  3. YNU will prepare a single point of contact and respond to requests from local communities, national and local governments, and industry.
  4. YNU will unify its organizations for partnering with industry to flexibly and swiftly respond to requests; for example, introducing joint researchers, hosting joint research, and transferring intellectual property rights.
  5. YNU will act in solidarity with local communities and citizens.

YNU will work in concert with our local communities, national and local governments, industry, and international society toward Japan playing a greater international role, while effectively combining the knowledge it produces with the knowledge and technologies of our society.
