Weather Cancellation Policy

Class Cancellation under Storm Warning

When a storm warning is being issued (or cleared) from the Japan Metrological Agency, classes and examinations at YNU will be handled with the following direction.

  1. Classes at YNU will be canceled in case a storm warning (such as typhoon) becomes effective against east side of Kanagawa Pref. (Yokohama City, Kawasaki City). When it becomes effective after the classes starts, it will be canceled from the following period. However, in order to secure student’s safety, it will be canceled immediately in case any further emergency occurs.
  2. Classes will start as follows after the storm warning is cleared.
    1. Cleared before 6 am. From 1st period (normal schedule)
    2. Cleared before 10 am. From 3rd period (classes at 1-2 period will be canceled)
    3. Cleared before 1 pm. From 5th period (classes at 1-4 period will be canceled)
    4. Cleared before 3 pm. From 6th period (classes at 1-5 period will be canceled)
  3. Classes will be canceled in case the following public transportations does not resume its service despite the storm warning is cleared.
    1. When both Sagami Tetsudo Line (Sotetsu) and Yokohama City Subway are not in service.
    2. Three or more among six lines which passes Yokohama Station are not in service: JR Lines (Tokaido Line, Keihin-Tohoku-Negishi Line, Yokohama Line (Departure/arrive station: Higashikanagawa station), Yokosuka Line), Keihin Kyuko Line, Tokyu-Toyoko Line-Minatomirai Line.

    In addition, classes will start as follows when public transportations resume its service.

    1. Resume before 6 am. From 1st period (normal schedule)
    2. Resume before 10 am. From 3rd period (classes at 1-2 period will be canceled)
    3. Resume before 1 pm. From 5th period (classes at 1-4 period will be canceled)
    4. Resume before 3 pm. From 6th period (classes at 1-5 period will be canceled)
  4. When public transportation does not resume its service even after the storm warning becomes clear and classes resume, students may not be given disadvantages on missing classes.

Class Cancellation when Public Transportations are not in Service

When public transportations are not in service due to natural disasters, electricity failure, strikes, etc., classes will be held as scheduled unless two or more lines are canceled. As mentioned at 3. above will be take into consideration under this circumstances.
When alternative transportation services are available, it is considered that transportations are running.

Class Cancellation in case of Earthquakes

  1. In case buildings collapses or are in danger of collapse, and when considerable number of students are injured or at the risk of it, classes will be canceled immediately.
  2. When a warning is being issued under the Large-Scale Earthquake Countermeasure Act, all classes will be canceled.

Online Class Cancellation

Online courses are NOT canceled if it applies Class Cancellation when Public Transportations are not in Service or Class Cancellation under Storm Warning.
However, there are cases of cancellation due to a teacher’s judgement.

In addition to above mentioned events such as a Heavy Raining Warning or a Heavy Snow Warning, classes will be canceled following the decision by the Vice-President (Student Affairs) of YNU.

Update on the Class Cancellation Regarding the Weather Condition

  1. Information delivery by Safety Confirmation System (information will be sent to the address registered during the class registration and to the “YNU Net Address”).
