Application Guidelines for
YNU E-SSUP Life Support Scholarship (Spring Semester AY2021)
(Objective)
YNU will provide the following life support scholarship for its students who are financially distressed due to the change of student life and learning environment caused by the spread of COVID-19. This scholarship is intended to provide the financial support for students to pay for additional expenses incurred by the resumption of in-person classes (e.g. housing deposit) as well as living expenses such as food and everyday household items.
(Eligibility)
Regular undergraduate and graduate students enrolling in YNU are eligible. (*Research students (kenkyusei) and accredited auditors (kamokuto rishusei) are not eligible.)
1) Those who applied for Tuition Waivers and Deferment are also eligible.
2) In principle, the following students are NOT eligible.
(Scholarship Amounts)
50,000 yen (one-time only in Spring Semester AY2021)
(Number of Recipients)
Up to 300 recipients
(Decision on Scholarship Recipients)
The decision on the scholarship recipients will be made by the President based on the contents of the application.
Screening Method: Document Screening
Notice of Results: The results will be notified by email in late May, 2021(tentative). The scholarship is scheduled to be paid by bank transfer in early June, 2021.
(Preservation of Documentary Evidence)
Scholarship recipients must keep the housing contracts and the documents, which can prove that the income of the applicants’ family and/or applicant’s part-time job has decreased (such as income statements and savings passbooks), until March 2022, and submit a copy on the request of YNU.
(Refund of Scholarship)
Scholarship recipients will be required to refund the full amount of the scholarship in the following cases:
(1)It becomes clear that they have made a false declaration.
(2)They fail to submit a copy of documentary evidence in response to a request from YNU.
(3)They get disciplinary action or involved in illegal action.
(4)Other than above: The need for emergency support is not recognized.
(How to apply)
1) Submit the application online from the URL below by 5:00 pm, Sunday, May 9, 2021. Applicants should specify their reasons for the need of the scholarship in the “Statement of Reasons”.
Note: The applicants may be required to submit other additional documents for YNU to confirm the need of financial assistance.

- - Students receiving a scholarship of 80,000 yen or more per month, including students who are
financially supported by the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT), foreign governments or
other institutions such as JICA or World Bank.
-Fellows of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
