Measures against the Infection Spread of the Novel Coronavirus (the Nineteenth Report)

Yokohama National University will continue to take measures under Stage 1.5 of the "YNU Action Plans to Prevent the Spread of the Novel Coronavirus (Ver. 3.2)新しいウィンドウが開きます " for the time being*. To ensure a safe and secure start to the new semester and considering that some people may be concerned about novel coronavirus infection due to various reasons, we ask for your cooperation in taking basic precautionary measures.
Please note that the measures may change depending on future circumstances. In such cases, generally, we will post the changes on the university website, so please check there.
*It assumes until May 8th, 2023, when the novel coronavirus infections will be positioned under the "Infectious Diseases Control Law" from new-type influenza and other infectious diseases to class 5 infectious diseases.

1. Basic precautionary measures


(1) Basic precautionary measures remain important. The basic precautionary measures* refer to avoiding “Three Cs” (Closed spaces, Crowded places, and Close-contact settings), keeping an appropriate distance from other people, wearing masks, hand washing and other hand hygiene, ventilation, and so on.

(2) On wearing masks, an individual’s independent choice will be respected. This policy will be applied from April 1st, 2023, at schools. However, wearing masks is recommended* in the following situations.
- During visits to medical institutions where the elderly and other people at high risk of serious illness are hospitalized, as well as elderly care facilities
- When visiting a medical institution
- When boarding crowded trains or buses such as during rush hours (excluding vehicles that can seat all passengers such as Shinkansen, commuter liners, express buses, chartered buses, etc.)(tentative measures)

(3) When attending classes, please refer to the “YOKOHAMA National University Infection Prevention Guidelines for In-person Classes”.

(4) If you are concerned about your health condition, please call the Health Service Center (045-335-1518, weekdays 9:00-17:00) for advice.

2. What to do when infected with novel coronavirus


(1) Students, faculties, and administrative staffs who have been diagnosed to have the novel coronavirus infection must register the results of the diagnosis and other information through the web form provided on the Health Service Center’s website新しいウィンドウが開きます . They are prohibited to attend classes or to commute until they are cured according to the School Health and Safety Act or the working regulations of YNU.

(2) Students, faculties, and administrative staffs who have been identified to have close contact with a person infected with novel coronavirus must register the results of the diagnosis and other information through the web form provided on the Health Service Center’s website新しいウィンドウが開きます . They are prohibited to attend classes or to commute for five days following the last date of the close contact with a person infected with novel coronavirus according to the regulations above.

[For students]
Those who fall under (1) to (2) above are advised to contact the office of academic affairs of their undergraduate or graduate school via e-mail or telephone call about their absence from classes and examinations.

[For faculty/administrative members]
Those who fall under (1) to (2) above are requested to take paid holidays from work according to the working regulations of YNU.

(4) If you are unable to fill out the web form on the Health Service Center's website or have other unavoidable problems, please call the Health Service Center (045-335-1518, 9:00-17:00 on weekdays) to report the problem.
