  3. Yokohama National University Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences (YNU-GSEIS) and the United Nations University – Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) have signed the credit exchange agreement that will be implemented from April 2012.

Yokohama National University Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences (YNU-GSEIS) and the United Nations University – Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) have signed the credit exchange agreement that will be implemented from April 2012.

On 6 March 2012, Prof. Shin Morishita, Dean of the Yokohama National University Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences (YNU-GSEIS) and Dr. Govindan Parayil, Director of the United Nations University – Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Credit Exchange. The graduate school students of YNU-GSEIS and other YNU graduate schools are allowed to enrol in any of the 18 courses offered under the UNU-IAS Master of Science in Environmental Governance with Specialization in Biodiversity Programme and to have their credit acknowledged in YNU. Graduate school students of UNU-IAS are allowed to enrol in any of 6 courses offered in connection with the Environmental Leadership Development for Sustainable Living with Environmental Risks, a programme coordinated by YNU-GSEIS and their credit are acknowledged in UNU-IAS. Through this credit exchange, it is expected that YNU graduate school students learn science and policy of biodiversity from holistic view points and promote capacity development with fervent students from overseas.

The credit exchange agreement was signed today at the occasion of the final presentations of the 2011 autumn course on environmental risk management in the form of Interactive Multimedia Education (IME), and a certificate giving ceremony for the “Environmental Leadership Development for Sustainable Living with Environmental Risks” undertaken by YNU-IAS and supported by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japanese Science and Technology Promotion Agency. IME is conducted in live broadcasting at the 5th class hour in collaboration with East China Normal University (China), University Sans Malay (Malaysia), University of the Philippines Los Baños (Philippines), Danang University of Technology (Viet Nam), Kasetsert University (Thailand), Lanpung University (Indonesia), University of Nairobi (Kenya) and University of Antanarivo (Madagascar).
